Advisory and Mentoring

Advisory at TJ

At TJ, every student has an advisor throughout their high school tenure.  Advisory meets twice weekly (Tuesdays and Fridays). Ninth graders often engage in mentoring sessions with leadership students in upper grades during advisory.

Tuesdays are essential advisory times where students get information related to school activities, deadlines, and special announcements. Advisory teachers work with students to check grades online, engage in team-building activities, and catch up on homework.

Friday advisory times are flexible. On these days, students are permitted to meet with other teachers if granted prior permission, while others may attend special meetings like ASB House of Representatives or Mentorship.

All-school assemblies generally take place during advisory blocks.

Advisory is by grade level, with exceptions for some students receiving special education services or English Language Learner support.
